VHS to Digital and DVD Conversion Across the UK

Tapes To Digital's VHS to digital conversion is a physical service, not a file upload tool. You drop your tapes at one of four UK drop-off points — Brixton, Watford, Southall or Farnborough — or post them from anywhere in the UK at the same price. Every tape is played back on professional converters, and you get an MP4 for everyday viewing, with the archival AVI/MOV master for keeping on request at the same price. Files come on a USB we supply, as a download, on a USB you bring, on an external hard drive, or on DVD for £6 a disc. Your original tapes always come back.

Tell us what you have and we will confirm price and turnaround before you commit.

Convert VHS to Digital: MP4, USB and DVD

Tapes To Digital captures the footage straight from the tape signal on professional converters, so nothing is re-encoded from an already compressed copy. Every VHS conversion comes back as an MP4 for everyday viewing. Ask for the archival AVI/MOV master for long-term keeping and we'll supply it alongside your MP4 at the same price — there is no premium tier and no custom quote. Choose how you get them: a USB we supply, a download, a USB you bring us, or an external hard drive on any order. DVD copies are £6 per disc. If your collection is mixed, we also handle VHS-C tapes to digital and Betamax to digital conversion, so one order can cover the lot.

VHS Tapes That Are Damaged, Mouldy or Have Not Been Played in Decades

A VHS tape does not have to be in good condition for Tapes To Digital to transfer it. Mould growth, a cracked shell, tangled tape and recordings untouched since the 1990s can usually still be recovered. Mould cleaning and tape repair are from £13 per tape and we quote before any work starts. We never charge for a tape that turns out to be blank, or for a recording that cannot be recovered — you pay only for footage we actually get back, and every original comes home either way. We cannot tell how long a tape runs until we play it, so we never quote a running time in advance.

VHS to Digital Prices: £13 to £15 per Tape

VHS to digital with Tapes To Digital is £15 per tape for 1–4 tapes, £14.50 for 5–10, £14 for 11–20, £13.50 for 21–30 and £13 for 31 or more. A mixed order of VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video 8, Hi8, Digital 8, Betamax, DVDs and audio cassettes counts together towards the same discount. Three hours of footage are included per tape, then £6 per extra hour, and NTSC or French tapes are £7 per tape on top. The full breakdown is on our tape conversion pricing page.

Where Tapes To Digital Converts Your VHS Tapes

Tapes To Digital has four UK drop-off points: Brixton in south London, Watford in Hertfordshire, Southall in Ealing, west London and Farnborough in Hampshire. All four are by appointment rather than shopfronts, and the exact address arrives with your booking confirmation. Not near one? Post your tapes from anywhere in the UK at exactly the same per-tape price. Everyday formats including VHS and VHS-C are converted at the drop-off you use; rare and specialist formats go to Tapes To Digital's UK lab in Farnborough. See all four on our UK drop-off locations page, or the full format list on our video tape to digital conversion overview.

Some high-street shops still take VHS tapes, but many send them away to be converted elsewhere. If you want a specialist, Tapes To Digital plays every tape on professional converters. We do a better job, and your originals always come back.

How Long VHS to Digital Conversion Takes

Most VHS orders from Tapes To Digital are ready in 7–10 working days from the day we receive your tapes, and often sooner. Tell us when you book if you need them by a particular date and we'll say straight away whether we can meet it. If a tape needs cleaning or repair before it will play we contact you first, because that can add time. Your original tapes are always returned.

Preserve, Repair and Convert Your VHS Tapes

Tapes To Digital does four things with a VHS tape: transfers it, repairs it, cleans it and gives it back to you. Here is what that covers.

VHS tapes being preserved, repaired and converted to digital

VHS to Digital Conversion

Tapes To Digital converts VHS and VHS-C tapes to MP4 for £13–£15 per tape. Ask for the archival AVI/MOV master and we'll supply it alongside your MP4 at the same price — no upgrade and no custom quote.

VHS Tape Repair and Mould Cleaning

Worn, snapped, tangled or mouldy tapes are cleaned and repaired from £13 per tape before transfer, and we always quote the cost before we start work.

Convert VHS to USB or DVD

Take your files on a USB we supply, as a download, on a USB you bring, or on an external hard drive. DVD copies are £6 per disc, with long recordings split across discs rather than compressed.

NTSC, French and Over-Length Tapes

American NTSC and French tapes are £7 per tape on top of the standard price. Three hours of footage are included per tape, then £6 per extra hour — and because a tape's length can only be known once it is played, that is confirmed after transfer, never before.
